Meanwhile Twitter's global and humanitarian influence became apparent in the awful Haiti earthquake. Even as the communications infrastructure in Haiti was destroyed, Twitter and other social networking websites posted horrific details of the carnage and brought home the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis. Twitter provided updates on where clean drinking water is available in Port-au-Prince and where people are still trapped under rubble and debris. Haiti native singer Wyclef Jean used Twitter to enable text message donations for the survivors. Another local celeb, Carel Pedre, was tweeting immediately after the 7.0 magnitude quake using his Twitter site as a bulletin board to help find missing Haitians.
